At The Isabel Baker Foundation, we understand that every family’s journey is different. Alongside the support we provide, there are many wonderful charities and organisations offering help, advice, and comfort to families affected by childhood cancer.
Below you’ll find links to trusted resources that may offer additional support when you need it most.
Every child or Young Person will be allocated a named Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker. They are experts in helping families handle the day-to-day challenges that come with a child’s cancer diagnosis. They are there to make sure families get the support they need throughout treatment. Signs and symptoms of cancer can get confused as they can also be indicative of many less serious illnesses. However, it is important to know what might be a cause for concern, as early diagnosis makes a huge difference to outcome.
The aim is to support children and their families who come under the care of the Piam Brown and the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) wards in Southampton General Hospital. Practical help will be given - financial grants to help people through a difficult time. Bereaved families may be given grants to help give parents time to grieve. Days out and fun memory-making grants will also be given, which will allow the families a chance to do something together.
Alfie’s Wish sends children with cancer (0-16 years) and their families on days out, with an aim to cover costs such as tickets, food and accommodation (if applicable).
Dylan's Quest provides magnificent memories for children and their families following diagnosis and makes grants for individuals, financial relief for families experiencing hardship.
FFC supports people affected by cancer who live in the PO, SO and BH postcodes by providing financial grants that can be used to cover a wide range of needs. These can include things such as household costs, a memorable time with the family (family meal, day trip or a visit to family), clothing or household items such as white goods, essential house maintenance or small adjustments.
George's Rockstars mission to make children in hospital smile as much as George did, starting with providing music therapy in children's hospital wards.
Provide free holidays to children with cancer and life limiting illnesses and their families.
The Joe Ellis Trust helps Isle of Wight children who have cancer and their families in their time of need.
The aim of Sophie’s Appeal is to support the social, emotional and educational welfare of children, their families, nursing and support staff and provide a caring and supportive environment in both local hospitals and in the community.
Meredith’s mission provides parent / carer support, clothing, wellbeing and therapy vouchers, signposting for families as well as days out / treat days.
This UK government scheme supports families by covering key costs when a child under 18 (or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy) dies and the burial or cremation takes place in England. It is not means-tested, meaning your income or savings won’t affect eligibility.
The fund helps pay for the burial or cremation fees, including the doctor’s certificate and a coffin, shroud or casket (up to a certain cost)
